There are several different ways to look at how much power the constitution gives the government. It is possible that the government is using way to much power as it is. The government already takes one out of every three dollars we make, yet we are trillions of dollars in debt. How can this be? A radical idea would be that the government needs to be scaled back and focus on what the constitution allows them to do. By stepping back, we may lose social programs that are designed to help the unfortunate, but private organizations will step up. It is well known that government bureaucracy wastes untold amounts of money where the private sector is more precise in the way they spend money.

Taking money away from the states to blackmail them into following the federal government is one such power abuse that occurred with the change of the drinking age. If any state wanted to rise up and set a point, they would risk losing millions of dollars that help keep the infrastructure in tact. When did the government of the United States become a power hungry monster that is trying to control all aspects of the world, is that really what the founding fathers envisioned?

When you talk about the government, I can't help but think about what the law used to be regarding drinking age. A while ago (but not too long ago), 18 was the legal age. This age was a time of independence as teenagers began leaving their parents and either headed to college or the real world. With this independence and young experience came excessive drinking.
So, why did the legal age increase? I wonder if it could be because 18 year-olds were immature and irresponsible with alcohol. This is probably the answer.
I'd like to end this comment with how your topic relates to this post. Obviously, you feel the government has too much power and their supposedly playing with the constitution. In a way, I agree with this. I feel our representative democracy is a little too controlling. However, I can honestly say that I support our government 100% when it comes to increasing the legal age. When you think about it, our government didn't look out for our economy when they increased the legal age. Perhaps the lives of teenagers are a little more important than the economy.
Although I support our government more than you do when it comes to legal age, I respect your opinion. It would be nice to have the legal age back down to 18, but in the end, it's for the best.

Saying that 18 year olds are immature which is why the alcohol age should be 21 is a pretty gutsy call. By the time people are 18, they have already lived 1/4 to 1/3 of their current life span. That by no means makes us young. Also at 18 you are legalized as an adult, you have full capacity to make a child, sign legal documents, go to war, marry, be sued, go to jail for life. Yet people are not allowed to drink alcohol. If people are to immature to drink alcohol then it is pretty unbelievable that they have so many rights at 18, and are the very pawns for the president to use when going to war.

The government may have the best interest of the people at heart when they make some decisions, and they also may be looking out for themselves in different decision that they make. As we are a democracy the voters should take more responsibility for what happens in the government. The problem i have is that the government has just become to powerful and regulating. The should not have so much control over our personal life's. If I am a legal adult and i feel it necessary to drink until my liver shuts down and i cease to function as a person then that is my right as a person. As long as my choice does not infringe on the rights of others, than i should be able to live my life as I chose.
